"NOT A MOMENT TOO SOON," Julie Andrews says of her recent (two weeks ago) gall bladder surgery. She returns to "Victor/Victoria" on Saturday and resumes eight shows a week. "I didn't realize I was feeling so bad," she admits. "I had a bad back -- but it wasn't the bad back at all -- (it was the gall bladder). It was good that I was in such terrifically good shape. And I'm all keyed up to return." She thanks the entire company during her absence -- particularly her standby, Anne Runolfsson. Andrews continues to do "across the board" albums (Philips) of B'way, the next, songs with the lyrics of Alan Jay Lerner (and his composers). She's also completing another children's book. It's titled "Babe" (HarperCollins). "But I guess I'll have to change that now," she laughs. "It's about a cat!"... Michael Caine teams with Sidney Poitier again, joining him in Showtime's "Mandela." They previously co-starred in "The Wilby Conspiracy" in 1975. That too was South African-set but in those days had to be shot in Kenya. Now they film in South Africa with Poitier in the title role and Caine as Frederik Willem De Klerk. Caine just wound another "heavy" role with Bruce Willis in Fox/Searchlight's "Blood & Wine" in Florida ... Tori Spelling shifts from ICM to CAA ... Although he swore he wouldn't do it again -- Wolfgang Puck will indeed copter from the board of governors' Oscar Ball (which he feeds) at the Music Center to Spago, where Miramax will hold its Oscar bash -- 200 for dinner, 700 post awards with a tent covering part of the parking lot. Miramax will make it lavish, caviar and Dom Perignon. Wolfie says it may be his last hurrah at the Sunset Strip site before heading south to Beverly Hills, "So I want it to be very exciting."
IT'S TOO HOT TO COOL DOWN -- the Tom Selleck-Courteney Cox coupling on "Friends." He was skedded for one, then three guestints, four and next week a fifth and -- ? This weekend, Selleck's saluted at the Santa Barbara fest and shows his Showtime "Ruby Jean and Joe" MOW ... Once again celeb models turned out for sweet charity. This time $40,000-plus was raised Wednesday noon at the ERAS Center's 14th Best of Beverly Hills fashion show at the BevHilton. Janet Leigh hosted, Gloria Franks chaired, with these runway stars wearing BevHills' best threads: Kim Delany, Tea Leoni, Christine Elise, J.C. McKenzie, Jean Smart, Kristin Bauer, France Nuyen, Ali Landry (Miss USA, '96) Anne Jeffreys -- and KNBC's generous weatherman Fritz Coleman and "Chicago Hope's" Thomas Gibson ... This weekend, Bob Stack's saluted with the J.F. Kennedy National Award at the St. Patrick's Day parade and gala in Holyoke, Mass. Previous winners include Maureen O'Hara and Pat O'Brien ... Mel Torme guests -- as himself -- in a "Sliders" seg.
