Sinatra gets several formal fetes
ROSEANNE MAY BE CHANGING her mind about calling it quits to the series this year. She was pleased with the web's quick-switch of her timeslot tonight (to 9: 30) because of the gay marriage between Fred Willard and Martin Mull. Roseanne, at the Davises', told me it was a rush to get this seg on the air -- taped last Friday. And at Joni and Jody Berry's holiday open house, Norm Crosby, who performs the gay ceremony on "Roseanne," was talking the seg with Milton Berle who is the surprise finale: he catches the gay wedding bouquet, and is in complete drag. "It's the first time I've done this in 17 years," he told me ... At this party, Jane Withers told me she's the voice of Laverne, the gargoyle, in Disney's "Hunchback of Notre Dame." Withers replaces the late Mary Wickes, who had started the role. Withers is no stranger to animation voices: she started at 5 on "Willie Whopper" in 1933-34! ... The Berry's party boasted many SHARE Ladies who will soon go into rehearsals for their May 6 Boomtown bash ... Ron Meyer invited Universal-MCA, Seagram's regular employees and their families to Sunday afternoon's party on the studio's backlot -- 9,500 showed. Along Came Mary's Mary Micucci transformed the five acres with holiday decor, snow, petting zoo, pony rides, merry-go-round, ferris wheel, plus 70 food stations and Seagram spirits. The Wassermans made the rounds of the party in a golf cart. Tonight, the Wassermans are formally attired for their tribute on the Phantom Stage. Meyer was deluged with thank you's, from set workers to top exex who were there.
THE SONY STUDIO was bustling Sunday as "Jumanji" was screened in 12 screening rooms, including two new 300-seat theaters/dubbing stages. The post-party was in a giant, jungle-decor'd theme tent on the Thalberg parking lot -- which will also be the site of this studio's employees' Christmas party, Thursday. Sunday, the tent contained decorating tables for kids to create their own art works, as they had at the "Little Women" preem. Along Came Mary again did the appropriate food stations corresponding to the pic's scenes and John Chuck did the jungle-like decor and effects for the event for the L.A. Children's Museum. Kids could also be digitally photo'd with the film's stars. On hand were Robin Williams (with wife Marcia and chidren), Bonnie Hunt, Kirsten Dunst, Bebe Neuwirth and David Alan Grier. Alan Levine was celebrating his newly exalted status; other exex on hand included Mark Canton, Fred Bernstein and Sid Ganis, as well as director Joe Johnston, producers Ted Field and Scott Kroops. Sharon Stone, there with her 9-year-old goddaughter, Anna Marrari, said she plans to take time off at least until next April ... The environmental impact report on the proposed 93,000-square-foot conversion of Chasen's site is in and all impacts "can be mitigated," said Ira Smedra who, with partner Jacob Wintner of the Arba group, will put in the shopping center, Ralph's market and "a fine restaurant"-- it won't be Chasen's ... Connie Stevens is OK, due out of the hospital momentarily following gallstone surgery. She recently returned from Vietnam -- and a stand with her Forever Spring line on HSN in Tampa.
