GOOD MORNING: Louella and Hedda, the Hollywood Women's Press Club could use you to sweeten the sour apples flying around the old clubhouse. President Phyllis T. Lycett withdrew her name from nomination as president at the Wednesday meeting. In a letter to members (which she also sent me), Lycett says, "There has been much information and misinformation disseminated by certain detracting members of this club, and whisper campaigns generated in order to force me from running for re-election as president." Lycett told me, "I don't need to go through this back-stabbing and pettiness." She also is calling a special board meeting "to have the libelous remarks stricken from the minutes and have the minutes correctly reported." Included was reference to a "Hard Copy" appearance that Lycett had made. "I only had one sentence about Hugh Grant," she said. Past presidents Janet Tighe and Barbara Best (50-year member!) were called in to "pull the club back together and make peace with the club's factions." And at Wednesday night's meeting at the Sportsmen's Lodge, Corinne Entratter was named the new (sole) candidate for president. "I'm trying to put Humpty Dumpty back together again," she said. The club is readying for its big function of the year, the Golden Apple Awards at which three-time Oscar winner George Sidney (Entratter's husband) receives the Louella Parsons Award from Bob Stack. Sidney is recouping from an accident in which his left hand was broken but he'll be there. Annette Bening will be one of many star presenters in a show with the annual mystery Santa, m.c. Steve Allen, entertainer Phyllis Diller ... A bomb scare forced evacuation of a Carthay Circle building housing showbiz tenants including Dale Olson's praisery, Sam Leslie's accountancy, Fred Amsel's agency. The street was blocked off, including access to PMK, forcing everyone on the streets for two hours. Who didn't get his name in the papers?

Penney, Bon Ton, Dillards, etc. The line's for ladies size 14-26. "Ladies don't have to worry about their weight now," she said. Burke's winding CBS' highly dramatic, true "A Promise to Caroline" also wound USA's dramatic "A Baby of Her Own." No series plans. "I'm burned out on that and this (clothing line) is too time consuming." Yup, she wants to sell on QVC, too.
