Revised 'HIStory' has yet to hit shelves

GOOD MORNING: I called Tower Records and asked if they'd received the new version of Michael Jackson's "HIStory" with revised lyrics. No, I was told, "Sony continues to ship the original. They haven't pressed any new ones." Does Tower have any of the originals in stock? "Plenty." Do any of these albums have stickers or inserts of apology, as promised? "No." Repeated calls to Jackson, Epic and his many reps finally brought this answer late Tuesday: Jackson has recorded the lyrics and the master will be delivered to Sony today. Timetable to follow ... London is sweltering in 95-degree heat and Joan Collins is swathed in furs as Lady Hogbottom (!) for ABC-TV's non-musical sequel to "Annie," tentatively titled "Sir Daddy" and starring Collins, George Hearn as Daddy Warbucks and Ashley Johnson as Annie. The period is 1950 and Collins said they're filming in a 700-year-old castle near Oxford. Ray Stark talked to Collins about the project five years ago when he wanted to do it as a feature. When Stark made theoriginal pic in '82 with John Huston directing, Wendy Dytman spoke to him about the sequel -- which she now co-exec produces with Stark. Ruth Slawson also co-exec produces; Joy Spink produces and Ian Toynton directs. Carol Burnett was pitched to play the opening scene as Miss Hannigan, her starring role in the '82 feature. But Burnett's readying for Broadway. Carol Cleveland will play the part ... Collins will return to L.A. in September for Vanity Fair's upcoming all-TV issue -- and to talk doing another series. She just returned from Paris and the Valentino couture showing. Also there to check out the high-priced threads was Candy Spelling, accompanied by Nolan Miller, designer of Spelling series stars' costumes. Collins was accompanied by her steady, Robin Hurlstone. But no more marriages for Collins, she insists: "That ain't gonna happen."

HE KNOWS WHEREOF HE WRITES: Mike Myers, an amateur hockey player of note, is writing "Hockey Night in Mexico" for Simpson-Bruckheimer at Disney, with Myers to take to the ice as a player shipped to the first expansion team, the Tijuana Aztecs. "I'm happy -- playing hockey and writing," says Myers. His mother-in-law , Linda Richman, is also in Burbank, at Buena Vista readying her talkshow. You recall, Mike made her famous via his takeoff in the "SNL" seg "Coffee Talk." Would Myers return to "SNL"? "If they ever need me, I'd love to do something," he said. "I love that show." They could certainly use him! ... The Gilbert sisters are back in town: Melissa's returned from St. Petersburg, Paris, London, Montreal and N.Y. from Doug Cramer's four-hour NBC "Zoya" mini of Danielle Steel's book. She is expecting her first child with Bruce Boxleitner at Christmas and tells me she's "not sure when I'll go back to work. For the first time I don't have to work. It's a nice change." Boxleitner starts his second season on the WB/syndie'd "Babylon 5.""My life is full of sunshine these days -- except for one dark cloud," said Gilbert, who filed a suit vs. ex-husband Bo Brinkman and the National Enquirer for "defamation of character and invasion of privacy," etc. ... Her sister Sara Gilbert's back on the "Roseanne" show before returning to Yale, where she'll be a junior. She toured France, Italy, Spain and Holland on her hiatus and school vacation. When "Roseanne" departs the air next season, Sara (20) says she'll continue to be active in TV and hopes to "definitely" direct as well as act. She's majoring in art, with emphasis on photography. The initial "Roseanne" seg taping this week features a baby shower for Roseanne, who expects real-life son Buck's arrival next month. Sara's surrounded by expectant mothers in real and professional life -- fortunately, she says, "I love babies"... Columbia TriStar TV exec Helene Michaels and Island Pictures exec Todd Baker welcomed their first, son Hutton Michaels B., at Cedars-Sinai Friday.

FROM DOUBLEDAY to Harry Winston's to Le Cirque: That's Barbara Taylor Bradford's sked today with husband Robert B. as HarperCollins launches 600,000 copies of her latest book, "Dangerous to Know," and a 1 million paperback first run of her '94 bestseller "Everything to Gain," which Robert exec produces for CBS as a two-hour vidpic this fall. Barbara's next, "Love in Another Town," is out in October. It's described as being along the lines of "The Bridges of Madison County"-- only 225 pages, and set to sell at $ 15 and to be packaged by William Morris for a feature ... Larry Gelbart's started to write the script for the feature musical "Chicago" for producer Marty Richards at Miramax. The Gelbarts happy-birthday'd Jerry Vale and his wife at Drai's ... The Gate was the scene for the post-preem party of Steven Seagal's "Under Siege 2: Dark Territory ," with Seagal jamming on guitar and drums with the Hamilton High Gospel Choir. Berry Gordy was toasted Tuesday at lunch by Hugh Hefner at the Playboy Mansion -- Gordy's interviewed in Playboy's August issue. Gordy rapped gangsta rap and reminded he encouraged a young Smokey Robinson to shift his anti-everything songs to positive attitude. "I guess it worked, because he went on to have a pretty good career. You did turn out pretty well, didn't you, Smokey," Berry smiled to the guest at his elbow.
