Thesps show 'Love Letters' to O.J. jury

GOOD MORNING: The O.J. Simpson jurors were in tears -- at the conclusion of "Love Letters" as performed for them by Lynn Redgrave and John Clark Saturday in (the empty) Courtroom 104, next door to their usual Courtroom 103. Only the jurors and the deputies were present. Lynn had delayed her flight to Australia and the start of the feature "Shine" with John Gielgud to keep a promise to the jurors. When she was performing her one-woman show "Shakespeare for My Father" at the Canon, Redgrave and Clark had volunteered to do that show for 'em. But four days after she closed (a four-month run), they got the OK from Judge Ito to perform for the Simpson jury -- thus they did "Love Letters" instead -- with the hefty approval of playwright Pete Gurney. However, one line in the play was changed. Melissa: "I think you like our pool and the elevator in my grandmother's house and Simpson in his butler's coat coming in with ginger ale and cookies on a silver tray.""Simpson" was changed to "Johnson"... And Roger Williams, who played a concert for the jurors in February (as revealed here), will next offer to host a retreat day for the jurors at a nearby resort, complete with meals and co-headlining entertainers with him. Meanwhile, Williams himself is feted in L.A. Wednesday with "Roger Williams Day" noting the 40th anni of his evergreen recording (MCA) of "Autumn Leaves" by Johnny Mercer and Joseph Kosma ... The Velvet Fog and Mountain Dew: With apologie$ to Cole Porter, "I Get a Kick Out of Dew," Mel Torme's commercial for Mountain Dew, did wonders on the tube, so now Cole's "Kick" by Torme is also going the radio route in a dance mix version by Jellybean Benitez ... Jane Seymour and James Keach expect their first child this winter. And Seymour "marries" Sully (Joe Lando) on "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" May 20, so producers have some added material for next season as well ..."Crimson Tide" scripter Michael Schiffer and wife Cyndee named their daughter, born Sunday, Juliana Tango S. Howcum "Tango"? "Cyndee and I fell in love on our first date when we were dancing," says Michael. His next Navy pic is "Blue and Gold" for Hollywood Pictures -- it's about the Annapolis cheating scandal -- and one of the Middies is a girl. Schiffer is also coming on board as director.
