Former Disney duo dines apart

GOOD MORNING: Michael Eisner and Jeffrey Katzenberg were breakfasting at the Peninsula Hotel on Wednesday ayem -- but separately and at opposite ends of the room. Eisner was talking with Bob Iger, whose ABC is partnered with Katzenberg's DreamWorks, you recall. Jeffrey, on crutches, wearing shorts as he recovers from skiing accident surgery, was with Scott Winant and Winnie Holzman ("My So-Called Life" writers-director) and CAA's Abby Adams and Mike Rosenfeld ... Throw a third hat in the ring of upcoming James Dean pix. This one's "James Dean -- Race With Destiny," written by Daniel L. Sefton, who says he sold it to producer Mardi Rustam and Cheeni Prods. (in the $ 200,000 neighborhood). It's the James Dean-Pier Angeli love story, and he calls it a '50s "Romeo and Juliet." Sefton also wrote the "James Dean, the Night Before" two-man play that preemed last year in Dean's hometown of Fairmount, Ind., and toured with Dean played by Wil. Hall who, sez Sefton, is under consideration for the movie ... Bill and Hillary Clinton attend a "My Family" screening reception Friday in D.C., benefiting the National Latino Communications Center. The cast, director Gregory Nava and producer Anna Thomas also will be on hand ... Former Clinton White House press secretary Dee Dee Myers is now D.C. editor for Vanity Fair, adding to her new CNBC "Equal Time" chores ... GQ will shoot a six-page fashion layout with Kato Kaelin costumed as famous -- and infamous -- characters ranging from Clyde (of Bonnie and) to the Beatles. Write your own captions ... Today would have been Audrey Hepburn's 66th birthday. In honor of her work for children, American Movie Classics' Hepburn Film Fest will raise money for her Children's Fund. When the fest airs Saturday with four of her top movies, Hepburn-themed products will be sold between pix to raise added funds ... A memorial will be held Saturday at the home of Matthew West for press agent Chuck Painter, who died of AIDS-related pneumonia April 15 at Long Beach Veterans Hospital.

CHASEN'S CHILI IS STILL COOKING -- at least 100 quarts were still for sale ($ 18 per) Wednesday. Scott McKay, Maude Chasen's grandson, who cooked up the batch last week, may try to put it on the market. Meanwhile, Chasen's signs atop the restaurant have been taken down -- to deter souvenir hunters ... Patrick Terrail hosted a lunch for the Moulin de Mougins' visiting Roger Verge on Wednesday at Terrail's Provencia on Fairfax. Patrick was the first to bring the famous French chef to L.A. -- to his Ma Maison -- in 1976. To tickle Verge's palate on his first L.A. visit, Patrick served him McDonald's hamburgers. Among Terrail's guests this trip were chefs from l'Orangerie, Drai's, the Grill, the Meridian, Fenix and Nicky Blair himself ... Ken Frank, former La Toque chef/owner, now is at the revamped and re-christened Fenix at the Argyle Hotel, formerly St. James' on the Strip, recently acquired by the Lancaster Hotel Group ... Star chef/restaurateur Joachim Splichel of Patina, Pinot Bistro, etc. signed a deal with the Pick-Vanoff Co., owners of the Sunset-Gower Studios, to open (with a major face lift) a new eatery on the former site of the Columbia Bar & Grill, in August ... The Grill in BevHills will be opening for Sunday dinners starting May 21 ... Busman's holiday. Peter Morton with Steve Tisch at Joe Stellini's new Carson's, where Michael Shaheen, formerly of Morton's is exec chef ... Liza Minnelli is joined by the wildly costumed "Nanny," Fran Descher, in presenting this year's Crystal Apple Award to designer Gianfranco Ferre at Wednesday's Century Plaza Hotel gala dinner and fashion show benefiting Aids Project Los Angeles. The supermodels will be joined on the runway by Hollywood celebs including Patrick Dempsey, Doug Savant, Billy Wirth and Antonio Sabato Jr. ... Ralph Edwards, who has never missed a "Truth Or Consequences" fiesta in 46 years , heads to the New Mexico town named for his gameshow Friday with a review m.c.'d by Bob Hilton.

COMING TO MEDICAL TERMS: Joining the celebration of the 50th anni of the end of the European theater of World War II, 100 (retired) medics of the multimedal'd 16th Evacuation Hospital invited Larry Gelbart to talk to 'em Friday at Cedars-Sinai. They're fans of "M*A*S*H"... Katharine Hepburn's longtime assistant and friend Phyllis Wilbourne died April 26 -- services are private ... At this ayem's Masonic Memorial Services for Burl Ives, Eddie Albert , who spoke at Services for Ives at Anacortes, Wa. April 23, will tell of their friendship, dating back to 1938 when they met trying out for "The Boys From Syracuse"... Michael Feinstein donates his artistry tonight at the home of Ruth and Joe Sinay to benefit the launching of a course in American Jewish Composers of the 20th Century, plus Feinstein scholarships, at Tel Aviv U ... Hal Linden's joined the Showtime/Par-sponsored Act One fest of one-act plays. He'll appear in Vincent Canby's play "After All," directed by Roxanne Captor. The fest's at the Met Theater through June 26.
