'Disclosure' predicts female approval

GOOD MORNING: How will women react to WB's "Disclosure," in which Demi Moore is the sexual harasser, Michael Douglas the sexually harassed? At the San Rafael sneak, director Barry Levinson reports women "cheered and applauded. For him (Douglas) to ultimately succeed was approved." Levinson predicts, "Women will have a great time with it." He reminds the pic is not an actioner or a comedy -- but it played with that kind of reaction and high scores to match. Stay tuned. Further pleasing to Levinson was approval of the film by book author Michael Crichton -- who approved the script by Paul Attanasio. Levinson admits, "We had to play a lot of catch-up -- we only started after February to put it together." And the movie has a Dec. 9 opening. Levinson is now en route to Italy, where Ennio Morricone is scoring. The director did his post at George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch, near the new home of the Levinson family, who've moved from L.A. (and Baltimore) north of San Fran, "where our children can safely ride their bikes"... Getting even on the distaff side of sexual harassment: "Woman Doctor" (Houghton Mifflin), Dr. Florence Hazeltine's expose of sexual harassment in the medical profession during her internship in the '70s, was bought by producers David Gershenson and Arthur Friedman. Dr. Hazeltine is now a director of the National Institute of Health. The producers are aiming the book for the bigscreen -- but with the success of NBC-TV's "ER" (also from Crichton) -- the small screen is another big possibility ... Jan. 30 marks the 10th anni of "We Are the World," and Ken Kragen's readying a simultaneous global airing of the song. Also that night, on the American Music Awards at L.A.'s Shrine, a tribute will be made with many of the original participants. Already set to appear: Michael Jackson, Harry Belafonte, Kenny Rogers, Lionel Ritchie, etc. Among those expected to attend is photographer Mohamed Amin, whose heart-wrenching pictures of children stirred the world. It is hoped President Clinton will participate.

PAST ACADEMY PRESIDENT and previous Oscar show producer Howard W. Koch called screenwriter Howard Koch in N.Y. and asked the latter not to auction his 1942 Oscar for the screenplay of "Casablanca." It was the first time the duo had spoken -- even though Par producer/exec Howard W. Koch admits they'd received each other's mail for years. At first, writer Koch agreed to producer Koch's request not to sell the Oscar, but then changed his mind, and it goes on the block Dec. 6 at Christie's in N.Y. Meanwhile, producer Koch is inundated with calls here in L.A. asking why "he" is selling "his" Oscar. He (HWK) ain't ... Lifetime Books has agreed not to publish the secrets of David Copperfield's magic in Herbert Becker's book "Secrets of Magic Revealed." Said Lifetime Books publisher Don Lesmee, "My company and I value our integrity. We were not aware of the controversy regarding a secrecy agreement between our author (Becker) and David Copperfield. We will honor the secrecy and our book will exclude all of David Copperfield's trade secrets." Further, a magic expert testified the Becker revelations were "inaccurate"... Gregory Peck is honorary host -- and will attend -- the Nov. 11 preem screening of "Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision," the feature docu portrait of the designer of the Vietnam Veterans Wall. The showing benefits the L.A. Veterans Initiative for homeless vets. Peck's son Stephen, a combat veteran of a year in Vietnam, works for the VA as a social counselor for the homeless ... Tony winner Ron Leibman directs the UCLA Little Theater's "Story Theater," Friday through Nov. 5. While Ron departed Wednesday to N.Y. for a "Law & Order" seg, and then on to play Shylock in the N.Y. Shakespeare Fest's "Merchant of Venice," Mel Shapiro stands in as director for Leibman.

DABNEY COLEMAN IS RECUPING from hernia surgery, and "Madman of the People" is sidelined for five days ... Neil Simon, Aaron Sorkin and Norman Mailer are acting as advisory board members to Jewish Theater of L.A., which made its (one-night) bow Sunday at the Westside Jewish Community Center with Jonathan Marc Sherman's "Sophistry," starring Carol Kane, Alexis Arquette, Jonathan Silverman, Gabrielle Carteris, Jack Noseworthy and Maddie Corman. "Sophistry," about sexual harassment at a New England college, is being adapted for Gracie Films by Sherman and James L. Brooks. Next for the JTLA is Arnold Perl's "The World of Sholom Aleichem," starring Julie Warner, in Feb ... Robert Guillaume segued from his Trump Plaza stand in Atlantic City to join Sidney Poitier, Farrah Fawcett and Michael Moriarty in CBS' "Children of the Dust." And Guillaume will have Nov. 11-13 off from the TV'er to concert with the Grand Rapids, Mich., symph. He is versatile.
