Michael-Lisa Marie wedding has town abuzz

GOOD MORNING: Ain't love grand? The statement from "Mrs. Lisa Marie Presley-Jackson" about her marriage to Michael brought forth more press/TV queries here than for any story in recent history. The questions ranged from "Do you believe it?" to "What will be the business ramifications?" Meanwhile, Priscilla Presley maintains her stand of "total support" for her daughter on the story. Coincidentally, Michael Jackson's album now being cut in N.Y. is titled 'His story" (to be interpreted either as "History" or as "His Story." And a crew is headed to Budapest to film background (historical, of course) for the mini musical film in which Jackson will appear for the album ... There was no question about the wedding of Naomi and Joe Eszterhas, who tied the knot on Maui Saturday with 30 friends on hand in a 100-year-old chapel with their 4-month-old son Joseph as ringbearer. Among those present: Paul Verhoeven (who also was wedding photographer), Guy McElwaine (who sang Cuey Lee's classic Don Ho favorite, "I'll Remember You"), Frank Price, Bob Evans (with Christy Scott, the bared model in the New York layout with him) and Craig Baumgarten. The newlyweds remain in Maui until Sept. 10, through the writers' confab on Labor Day weekend. He's completed screenplays of "Jade" (for Evans and Baumgarten), "Foreplay" (for Price), "Showgirls" (for Verhoeven) and "Gangland" (for Jon Peters and Col). Eszterhas says his next, untitled, is a spec script "to make Shane Black's record $cript ('The Long Kiss Goodnight') history. It's very different from what people expect from me. No, it's not G-rated, but it's not NC-17 either." Eszterhas sez he called Shane's agent David Greenblatt, said he wants "McElwaine to confer with you in the future"... Tony Award winner Anthony Crivello ("Kiss of the Spider Woman") and actress/model Katherine Olsen were married July 30 at Hollywood Presbyterian, with the reception at the St. James's Club ... Jason Priestley and Karen Elise's weekend at Rancho Valencia had the San Diego area buzzing with their marriage plans but the couple insists they haven't made 'em -- yet.

IT WAS NEWS TO THE "DOTTIE WEST" troupe in Nashville that Kate Jackson had heart surgery. She was to have played Patsy Cline in the CBS two-hour biopic starring Michele Lee. And producer Buzz Berger told me Jackson told 'em she had to depart the role because a broken arm due to be un-cast didn't heal properly and a pin had to be inserted. (She broke her wrist stunt'ing in NBC's "Ordinary Heroes") They quick-subbed Tere Myers, who was appearing in Nashville in a legiter, "Always Patsy Cline"-- but NOT in the Cline role! She was playing Cline's friend ... As for Kate Jackson, she was discharged from the hospital four days after the surgery and is anticipated to have a full recovery within a few weeks. Like Michele Lee, Kate is set to produce a MOW this Fall, hers a murder mystery set in the Iditarod dog sled race in Alaska ... It's a great season for the Balaban family: the Samuel Goldwyn Co. acquired North American rights to "The Last Good Time," which Bob B. directed, co-wrote and co-produced. It stars Armin Mueller-Stahl, Olivia D'Abo and Lionel Stander. And Mace Neufeld/Bob Rehme's banner acquired "Trust Me," which Balaban will direct. And Sydney Pollack directs Balaban's wife Lynn Grossman's script "The Putnam Project" for Mark Johnson at WB (it's about George Putnam and Amelia Earhart). Grossman's also completed the script of "She's All Mine" for Penny Marshall ... Fred Hayman's back from Tokyo, where the Japanese want him to open a version of his Rodeo Drive boutique. It could be the start of his international chain. Hayman described Procter & Gamble's purchase of Giorgio (for $ 150 million) from Avon as "brilliant." Hayman had sold it to Avon for ($ 165 million). And he's sold his second line of fragrances to Par Lux. There'll be no more sweet scents from him, Hayman assures.

DINAH SHORE AND HENRY MANCINI will be toasted at David Wolper's annual golf Tournament of Stars Aug. 9-11 at Napa Valley. The celeb players are from the showbiz, sports and political worlds ... Laura and John Ufland welcomed son Ethan Nathaniel July 26 at Tarzana hospital ... Loryn Locklin-Drai (Victor's wife) is spokesperson for Chrysler/Plymouth ... Matteo's Matty Jordan is undergoing treatment at Cedars-Sinai for his leg, injured in a fall. And, sad to say, brother Mikey Jordan remains at Brotman hospital ... 20th's "Airheads" preemed at N.Y.'s 57th St. Playhouse Monday night with the party following at the Hard Rock, where Stuttering John's band and Anthrax performed -- they're on the soundtrack. Also there: cast members Adam Sandler, Steve Buscemi, Amy Locane , plus Rosie Perez, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Beals, Stanley Tucci, etc.
