Drai's launch leaves Nicholson babysitting

GOOD MORNING: Instead of "Wolf"-ing on Monday and Tuesday nights, Jack Nicholson may be spending those evenings babysitting his children Lorraine and Raymond as their mother, Rebecca Broussard, hosts the new musical soirees at Victor Drai's hot La Cienega eatery. This week's launching (in the bar area) at Drai's brought out a crossover celeb group that extended from Sherry Lansing and Billy Friedkin, celebrating their third wedding anni along with Wendy Finerman and Mark Canton celebrating their ninth, the Gregory Pecks and Sidney Poitiers, James Woods, Billy Zane, Judd Nelson, Ed Begley Jr., Steve Tisch, Andy Vajna, Christopher Lambert and Diane Lane, Harry Hamlin and Lisa Rinna, Jacqueline Bisset, Quincy Jones and Nastassja Kinski, French star Patrick Bruel and Robin Leach ... Meanwhile, over at the Improv on Melrose, Tom Arnold got on stage to introduce his new "wife"-- Chris Farley! They were laughing it up on stage joined by another "Saturday Night Live-er," David Spade. And in the audience, a regular these nights, George Hamilton, talking to writers for his (and Alana's) upcoming talk'er ... Dolores Robinson was shocked to get word that Wesley Snipes had fired her -- after five years under her management, which saw Snipes soar to the $ 7 million mark on his last pic, "Drop Zone," and probably the same $ on "Money Train" for Columbia, plus the big back-end deal for "To Wong Fu, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar." Robinson philosophically notes her record speaks for itself, but adds this lesson, "Don't do your job too well -- you may make yourself obsolete"... Cupid's at work in Prague on the set of "Immortal Beloved"-- the smitten couple, Isabella Rossellini and Gary Oldman -- but we are told altar rumors are premature.

BURT REYNOLDS IS IN GREAT SHAPE and spirits to match, reports Angie Dickinson , who's back from the Jupiter, Fla., locations of "The Maddening." "And he acted wonderfully," says Angie. She reports the movie was to have been made in L.A. but was switched to Jupiter where Reynolds has two sound-proofed, air conditioned stages, great production facilities and offices as well. The pic is a thriller and Angie added, "I'm ecstatic." Yesterday, Angie took her daughter Nicky to Magic Mountain for her birthday ... Roger Moore completed his A&E "Biogaphy" shoot here and heads to London this weekend where his son Christopher is working on the James Bond pic as assistant location manager. He joins Pierce Brosnan's son on the crew, as well as producer Michael Wilson's son. Moore goes before the cameras December in "Sea Quest" playing Jean-Claude Van Damme's father. He's awaiting the latest rewrite on "The Saint" in which he'd also play the new Saint's papa. While in the U.S., Moore appeared for UNICEF at the Kiwanis' New Orleans convention, where he spoke on the world's iodine deficiency problem, and raised enough dough to eradicate the global problem by century's end! Roger is in tip top form, his prostate problem totally cleared ... Cubby Broccoli is reportedly out of intensive care at Johns Hopkins following triple bypass surgery ... Sumner Redstone and Frank Biondi are among those headed to Sun Valley, Idaho, for Herb Allen's annual conclave ... Christopher Reeve wound up being rebuffed by Geena Davis (for Michael Keaton) in "Speechless." "It was a smart choice by her," laughed Reeve, "I'm unreliable." And winged out Tuesday ayem for Alaskan-Russian waters. He'll be aboard Eskimo boats seeking gray whales to lense for the BBC and PBS "In the Wild" series. He picks up the series next year in Baja waters where whales give birth during their 13,000-mile annual journey. In between, Reeve starts "Village of the Damned" with Kirstie Alley for U, and is seen in the CBS mini "Black Fox" and feature "Reinhart's Theory."

BRANSON ROLLS OUT THE RED CARPET for Jerry Lewis today at the Crowne Plaza as he meets performers who'll headline the live seg of his 29th Labor Day telethon. Mel Tillis' theater hosts the Branson national segs. Tony Orlando, starring at his own "Yellow Ribbon Theater" in Branson, will make his 20th appearance on a Lewis telethon. Louise Mandrell celebrates her 40th birthday there tonight. Sister Barbara M.'s at the Grand Palace ...
