'Guys and Dolls' trades B'way for L.A.

GOOD MORNING: Tony winner "Guys and Dolls" will wend west to guest on the "Tonight" show June 15 and that night's B'way date is canceled and shifted to a June 19 matinee. Among those who'll join Jay Leno are Faith Prince (Tony-winner) and Nathan Lane singing "Sue Me" as well as "A Bushel and a Peck." Tony TV director Walter C. Miller (Emmy-winner) has been asked for advice on staging the legiter's guestint on "Tonight," since he was the one who fought to have all the B'way musical numbers staged live on the Tonys. "It took me six years," he admits, "but even Cameron Macintosh agreed it's theater and it should be live on stage and in a B'way theater. Nothing was pre-taped." Miller, by the way, reports that some B'way-ites are still beefing about the off-camera award presentations in lighting, costume, art direction, revival categories. "You're not going to win," he vows, "something's got to be done." Now here, Miller's already met with Fox on the Emmys for Aug. 30 and NARAS prez Mike Green and Pierre Cossette on the Grammys for next February at the Forum. The Emmys will once again stay with the comedy tone, which proved so successful last year. And he's talking to the "Simpsons" makers for an animation seg. Miller will exec produce and direct--there'll be no other producer (like Steve Sohmer of last year). ... Patrice Rushen has been hired to conduct-orch the Emmy music. ... And talking about "The Simpsons," Dan Castellaneta, the voice of Homer, and his wife, Deb Lacusta, are a holdover in their "Deb & Dan's Show" at Club Lux to June 20. ... Actors Equity President Ron Silver, who winged here after the Tonys for his "Tonight Show" stint, launched his one-man play rehearsals of "and" at the Hollywood Playhouse with Brooke and Teri Shields on hand. ... Brooke's returning for more scenes in "Freaks" in July.

Francis Coppola will be on the dais Saturday at the Waldorf for the Friars' tribute to Clive Davis, hosted by Roger Moore, dinner-chaired by David Tebet. ... Sargent Shriver and Eunice Kennedy Shriver wing out for tomorrow's screening of "Victory and Valor: The Special Olympics" for TV Acad members at WB screening room 12. The Shrivers are chairman of the Board and founder of the Special Olympics, respectively, and son Bobby Shriver exec produced the film with Ted Steinberg. Michael Seligman produced, Steve Binder directed the script by Stephen Pouliot. It's a Primetime Emmy contender boasting celeb supporters of the Special Olympics including Warren Beatty, Jon Bon Jovi, Richard Dean Anderson, Debbie Gibson, Bob Saget, Fred Savage, Bob Seger and Arnold Schwarzenegger introducing the courage of Special Olympians from around the world. ... AT LAST NIGHT'S BENEFIT of "Patriot Games" at the Acad, Cedars-Sinai Women's Guild President Marcia Ziffren announced the preem raised another $ 500,000 for the C-S Medical Center. It was the women's 35th fund-raiser via a movie preem. They started with "Kings Go Forth" in 1958--which raised $50,000. Over the years, these events have raised a total of $9 million and have included these film preems: "Spartacus,""West Side Story,""Lawrence of Arabia,""It's a Mad, Mad , Mad, Mad World,""Funny Girl,""Hello Dolly,""Sunshine Boys," etc. Last night's preem, "in keeping with the changing times," eschewed black-tie formality. .. This weekend's Michael Dante-Holiday Inn Celeb Golf Classic at the Ironwood C.C. in Palm Desert benefits the Give Kids the World charity. ...
