Tomorrow's the 65th birthday of Mann's Chinese theater and, following an 11 ayem forecourt program hosted by Bill Hertz, "Gentleman Prefer Blondes" ('53) and two vintage reels will be screened. Ginger Rogers will be on hand to autograph as Kathryn Leigh Scott's Pomegranate Press launches "Hollywood At Your Feet" and "Hollywood's Chinese Theatre" by the Acad library's Stacey Endres and Robert Cushman. Ginger wrote the forewords. I, too, have fond memories of the Chinese theater--like wearing a toga while m.c.'ing the 1966 preem of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" and arriving in--a chariot. But, that's another book ... James Earl Jones is here to tape a hostint for American Movie Classic's one-hour spec, "Diamonds on the Silver Screen," which airs Oct. 15, two days before the World Series. Jones batted in "The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings" and "Field of Dreams" plus the upcoming "Sandlot"... James Keach, who directed (and co-starred) with Jane Seymour in USA Network's "Sunstroke" (airing Sept. 23), will reteam in a second for USA with both producing. Keach also will direct a seg of Seymour's CBSeries "Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman." And exec producer Gil Grant set Keach to rein two segs of ABC's "Covington Cross."
