Procacci ventures to Oz

Italo producer opens Fandango, taps directors

SYDNEY -- Italian producer Domenico Procacci has formalized his long-standing involvement with Oz's film industry by establishing production shingle Fandango Australia.

Procacci, producer of Italo B.O. hits "La Stazione" and "Radiofreccia," will capitalize on long-established relationships with Australian filmmakers and writers forged through his Fandango Distribuzione and publishing arm Fandango Libri.

Helmers Rolf de Heer and Richard Lowenstein, marketing and acquisition exec Sue Murray and lawyer Bryce Menzies have been tapped as company directors.

Procacci has co-produced nine features with arthouse director and producer de Heer, including the Venice prize-winning "Bad Boy Bubby" and Cannes competition selections "The Quiet Room" and "Dance Me to My Song."

De Heer's uncast feature "Alexandra's Project," pegged to shoot in Adelaide later this month, could be the first project for the shingle, which aims to output a number of features each year and use its muscle to negotiate local and international output deals.
