Zoetrope deals o'seas rights

Myriad nabs 'Pumpkin,' 'CQ,' 'Thing'

Myriad Pictures has acquired international distribution rights to American Zoetrope's "Pumpkin," "CQ" and "No Such Thing," which will all be released in the U.S. later this year through MGM's specialty distribution unit United Artists as part of its non-exclusive three-year, 10-picture distribution deal with American Zoetrope (Daily Variety March 4, 2000).

"Pumpkin," which screened in competition at Sundance this year, stars Christina Ricci, Hank Harris, Brenda Blethyn, Marisa Coughlan and Dominique Swain. Directed by Adam Larson Broder and Anthony Abrams and penned by Broder, pic is a romantic satirical comedy about a rich Valley girl who meets a Special Olympics athlete who changes her world.

Karen Barber, Andrea Sperling and Ricci share producing credits on pic with Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa. Francis Ford Coppola, Willi Baer and Linda Reisman will exec produce.

"CQ," the feature directorial debut of Roman Coppola, stars Jeremy Davies, model Angela Lindvall and French actress Elodie Bouchez. Pic also features Gerard Depardieu, Giancarlo Giannini, Dean Stockwell, Billy Zane and Jason Schwartzman.

Produced by Gary Marcus, pic is a fantasy drama about a young American who goes to Paris to make feature films and becomes fixated on a beautiful actress who appears in a sci-fi movie. Francis Ford Coppola, Baer and Georgia Kacandes will exec produce.

"No Such Thing" aka "Monster," written and directed by Hal Hartley stars Sarah Polley in a spoofy sci-fi pic about a tabloid TV reporter who in search of her boyfriend encounters a man-eating monster along the way. Pic, which also features performances from Julie Christie and Helen Mirren is being produced by Hartley, Fridrik Thor Fridrikson and Cecilia Kate Roque. Coppola and Baer are exec producing.
