LONDON -- Fine Line Features and Granada Film are joining forces to co-finance "Roofworld," a futuristic British action-thriller to be directed by first-timer Vaughan Arnell.
Pic is adapted from Christopher Fowler's novel about gang warfare among alternative communities that live on the rooftops of London and despise the world below.
Marc and Peter Samuelson are producing, with a screenplay by Ollie Blackburn.
Arnell, repped by Duncan Heath at ICM, is one of the U.K.'s hottest commercials and pop promo directors, best known for his Robbie Williams videos and ads for Levi's and Stella Artois beer.
Fine Line president Mark Ordesky said, "We're always looking for smart genre movies, and this fits our bill. Vaughan Arnell has got such an unbelievable visual sense, the script is so strong, and it's a casting bonanza."
No budget has yet been set, but Ordesky estimated pic will end up in the $15 million-$25 million range.
Fine Line is taking North American rights, with Granada handling foreign, although Fine Line also has the option to match any bids Granada receives from international territories.
