Biz off; '42nd' 619g

NEW YORK -- Broadway grosses dipped by 4.7% to $9,505,841 during Week 36 (Jan. 28-Feb. 3). Attendance of 158,127 was off by 4.7% from the week before.

Most of the 21 shows on the boards saw dips of anywhere from a few thousand dollars to mid-five figures. Biggest dippers were "42nd Street" (off $107,472 to $619,891) and "Beauty and the Beast" (off $107,688 to $426,017). Super Bowl Sunday can be blamed in part for the general falloff.

"Bea Arthur on Broadway: Just Between Friends" started previews at the Booth, earning $159,059 for its first eight perfs.

The 16 musicals grossed $8,107,682 for 85.3% of the Broadway total, with attendance of 130,010 repping 79.4% of capacity.

The five plays grossed $1,398,159 for 14.7% of the Broadway total, with attendance of 28,117 repping 74.8% of capacity.

Average ticket prices were $62.36 for musicals, $49.73 for plays and $60.12 for all shows.
