Thesps pack bags for Greenaway epic

Abril, Rossellini, Potente join 'Tulse' cast

BERLIN -- Victoria Abril, Isabella Rossellini and Franka Potente have joined the huge ensemble cast of Peter Greenaway's trilogy "The Tulse Luper Suitcases," which will start shooting March 25.

The $11 million project will be made as three two-hour movies, each part premiering successively at next year's Berlin, Cannes and Venice film festivals. There will also be a TV version, cut into 16 half-hour episodes.

The trilogy covers the life of Tulse Luper, a "professional" prisoner, reconstructing the story of his life from the evidence of 92 suitcases found around the world between 1928 and 1989. J.J. Field stars as Luper. Cast members include Don Johnson, Debbie Harry and Nick Moran, among many others.

The project is produced by Greenaway's longtime partner Kees Kasander, and co-produced by Delux Prods. of Luxembourg, Spain's TS Prods., Focus Film from Hungary, Italy's GAM Film and Russia's Studio 12-A. Fortissimo Film Sales is handling international sales.

Greenaway intends to create a separate DVD to accompany each film, offering additional material and user interactivity. He is also planning a four-year Internet project and a book.
