'Our Lady Peace' tops Juno noms

Grammy picks Furtado, Krall also up for awards

TORONTO -- Rock group Our Lady Peace scooped the most nominations for this year's Juno Awards, Canada's answer to the Grammys, announced on Monday.

The Toronto rock group was tapped for album (Spiritual Machines), group, single ("Life"), album design and video (along with director Oli Goldsmith for "In Repair.")

Grammy nominees Nelly Furtado and Diana Krall are competing in two categories. Furtado's "Whoa, Nelly!" is up against Krall's "The Look of Love" for album and both are up for artist. Double-Grammy nominee Krall's "The Look" has been tapped for best vocal jazz album. Furtado was the biggest winner at the 2001 Junos and is a four-time nominee for this year's Grammys.

Veteran singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen received four noms, including artist, songwriter (with co-songwriter Sharon Robinson), pop album ("Ten New Songs") and video (with director Floria Sigismondi for "In My Secret Life"). Vancouver's Nickelback also notched four noms -- best group, single ("How You Remind Me,") album ("Silver Side Up,") and recording engineer (Randy Staub.)

Other multi-nominees include Sum 41 for album ("All Killer No Fear",) rock album (ditto) and group; and Hawksley Workman, for video, alternative album ("(last night we were) the delicious wolves,") and solo artist.

The awards will be presented April 14, hosted by the Barenaked Ladies, and will be broadcast on CTV. The Junos are presented by the Canadian Assn. of Recording Arts and Sciences.
