MP3.com's Oien logs on
Exec tapped for Viv U Web music post
Based in Los Angeles, Oien will report to VUNet chief exec Robin Richards. Both men came on board at the French media giant after it acquired their former employer MP3 last May for $372 million. Netco has since contributed much of its technology to the development of the Vivendi U/Sony music subscription venture Pressplay.
Oien will oversee day-to-day activities at the portfolio of Internet music properties that Vivendi U has collected via a massive buying spree over the past year. In addition to MP3, the conglom owns pay-download site EMusic, tune portal GetMusic and RollingStone.com.
Exec had been at MP3 since July 1999. Prior to that, he held posts at Universal Music Group, Sony Pictures Studios, tax consultancy BDO Seidman and tech firm Computer Sciences.
