No bother for 'Brother'
'Big' bow boots upstart out of the house
Globo alleged that SBT's "Casa" ripped off "Brother" when it launched in October and delayed the preem of "Brother," the first production by the joint venture Endemol Globo.
SBT's "Casa," which followed artists and musicians closeted in a house, was a ratings smash. Yet "Brother" notched up 49 ratings points, beating "Casa's" final episode in December. The Jan. 30 episode of "Brother" moved up to an impressive 53 rating points.
Slated to last 100 days, TV Globo will air "Brother" every night, while the show will also get extensive coverage on the broadcaster's regular newscasts and newsmags.
TV Globo is offering four advertising packages of 4.8 million reais ($2 million) each, during the nightly timeslot.
But whatever drama is going on inside Globo's "Big" house, its residents may not be the ones who decide who gets the boot first.
Brazilian authorities may expel housemate Sergio Campos from the country. The 29-year-old Portuguese holds a work visa for Brazil, but failed to notify immigration that he had changed jobs, a visa violation.
