'Snow' blankets Sweden's Bug nods

Helmer Troell takes critics' Greta prize

COPENHAGEN -- Swedish director Jan Troell's "As White as in Snow" bagged Sweden's Golden Bugs film awards for film, director and photography at Goteborg's Opera House on Monday. Troell also received the critics' Greta prize.

"Snow," starring Amanda Ooms, concerns Sweden's first woman aviator and parachutist Elsa Andersson, who jumped to her death in the 1920s when her parachute failed. Lars Herman and Nordisk Film Production produced the pic.

As in Karlovy Vary, the late Viveka Seldahl and Sven Wollter won actor and actress kudos for Danish director Bille August's "A Song for Martin," about senile dementia.

Carina M Johansson garnered the supporting actress nod for Mikael Hafstrom's "Days Like This," which also drew the screenplay award. Brasse Brannstrom took supporting actor for Colin Nutley's "Deadline."

Jean-Pierre Jeunet's "Amelie" won foreign feature, and Gunnar Bergdahl -- chief of the Goteborg Film Festival -- received the documentary award for "Ljudmila's Voice."

Johannes Stjarne Nilsson's "Music for One Apartment and Six Drummers" won the short film gong. Actress Gunnel Lindblom left with an honorary Bug, and director Reza Parsa ("Before the Storm") with the Ingmar Bergman Prize.

Separately, 22 Scandinavian features and full-length documentaries have been selected for the Nordic Event, the mart running through Sunday, as part of Sweden's Goteborg Film Festival, which concludes Feb. 4.

Half will have their world premieres at the mart, which has attracted 135 buyers and festival reps, up 30% from last year. The others are shown to the trade for the first time.
