Biz off; 'U-town' 324g

NEW YORK -- Broadway grosses dipped again as the roster dipped to 19 shows, likely the season's low point. Total take was $10,079,009, a dip of 7.7%, with attendance of 162,455 repping a somewhat heftier slide of 14.1%.

The decline was largely due to the absence of four shows that closed during the prior frame. Most productions still on the boards saw five-figure increases, with only five titles falling off.

The few shows bucking the upward trend included "Mamma Mia!," "The Phantom of the Opera" and "Rent," which saw minor dips, and "Sexaholix," which was down by $87,488 -- because it played only four perfs.

The 15 musicals grossed $8,779,467 for 87.1% of the Broadway total. Musical attendance of 137,442 was at 87.3% of capacity.

The four plays grossed $1,299,542 for 12.9% of the total, with attendance of 25,013 repping 87.9% of capacity.

Average ticket prices were $63.88 for musicals, $51.95 for plays and$62.04 for all shows.
