Berlin perspectives sidebar to feature edgy pics

German section commercially-oriented

BERLIN -- With its revamped and sharper focus on German films, the Berlin Intl. Film Festival's new sidebar, Perspektive Deutsches Kino (Perspectives German Cinema), is showcasing 11 alternative and cutting-edge works by mostly first-time filmmakers.

Meanwhile, the more mainstream German Cinema section is offering a look at home-grown hits like "Manitou's Shoe" and "The Experiment."

Most of the 20 German Cinema titles are commercial pics with international market potential. About half of them already have been released domestically, including Ralf Huettner's "Moonlight Tariff," "Girls on Top" by Dennis Gansel and Ben Verbong's "The Slurb."

Perspectives, on the other hand, is "a vast overview of our local talent, filmmakers to watch and the various genres they are working in," sidebar director Alfred Holighaus said.

The section includes documentaries, features and experimental films and is open to the general public as well as attendees. Below is list of the pics and helmers featured in the sections.
