BERLIN -- John Malkovich's directing debut, "The Dancer Upstairs" with Javier Bardem, has been pulled at the last minute from the Berlin Fest's Panorama sidebar for independent and arthouse films.

The pic, from Madrid's Lolafilms, about a Peruvian police officer's search for a Marxist rebel leader, was withdrawn after the pic was picked up by Fox Seachlight.

Among the newly confirmed titles to be screened at the Panorama are Feng Xiaogang's Chinese pic "Big Shot's Funeral" starring Donald Sutherland and Paul Mazursky, and Argentinean-Spanish production "Every Stewardess Goes to Heaven" by Daniel Burman.

In all, 38 features, 18 docs and 23 short films from around the globe will be screened at the Panorama.

These include Moises Kaufman's "The Laramie Project," which opened Sundance; "Pinero" from helmer Leon Ichaso, starring Benjamin Bratt; "Bungalow" from German helmer Ulrich Koehler; and U.K. documentary "Lost in La Mancha" by Keith Fulton and Louis Pepe.
