Exhibition expenses jumped 8%, operating costs up 6%

HOLLYWOOD -- Exhib AMC Entertainment posted a reduced fiscal third-quarter loss of $9 million Tuesday, despite higher film and theater costs.

That compared with red ink totaling $10 million in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Exhibition expenses jumped 8% to $106.9 million, and theater-operating costs were up 6% to $79.2 million. Concession costs dropped 18% to $9.8 million.

Revenue at the Kansas City, Mo.-based circuit rose 5% to $316.3 million in the latest 13-week period, ended Dec. 27.

Results "reflect the strength of AMC's industry-leading portfolio of high-performing theaters," chairman-CEO Peter Brown said.
