History month a WE event

Cabler to celebrate women with special series, contest

WE: Women's Entertainment will celebrate Women's History Month in March with a contest, "Dream It, Do It," and the special series "Winning Beginnings."

Skein, which will run Sunday nights, will include docs, original specials and films celebrating women. Diane Lane will introduce each week's theme -- women in action, women in Hollywood, etc. Tribute ends with documentary "When I Was a Girl," produced by Linda Ellerbee and hosted by Stockard Channing.

The "Dream It, Do It" contest begins in February and will award one woman $25,000 to pursue her dream. Entry forms are available on net's Web site (wewomensentertainment.com) and at point-of-purchase displays at Safeway stores nationwide.

Campaign, the net's second annual effort to recognize the contributions of women, is presented in conjunction with the National Women's History Project. More than 350 affiliates, repping 15 million subscribers, will participate, including AT&T Broadband, Cox, Comcast and Time Warner.

"The 'Dream It, Do It' initiative reinforces our commitment to celebrating the achievements of women by encouraging them to make history in their own lives," said Martin von Ruden, net's exec VP/general manager.
