The Film Council is laying out £17 million ($24.3 million) to boost the U.K.'s specialized distribution and exhibition sectors.
The council wants to create a $1.43 million fund to subsidize the P&A costs for arthouse movies and another $1.43 million fund for cinema education. Some $21.5 million has been set aside to improve the infrastructure of arthouse exhibition. Coin could subsidize new screens devoted to niche cinema or upgrading of existing screens.
The Film Council has issued a consultation document with a deadline of March 1 for feedback.
