Becker buys Globe Films

Mackie, Peyten to o'see ailing distrib division

This article was corrected on Jan. 29, 2002.

SYDNEY -- The Becker Group has acquired marketing shingle Globe Films and appointed its co-toppers Andrew Mackie and Richard Peyten to oversee ailing distribution division Becker Films.

Globe, a marketing and research firm with distribution experience, will continue operations. "Maintaining that independence is crucial to us," Mackie said.

CEO Richard Becker said the dual appointment will bring continuity to the position.

Peyten and Mackie will manage Globe and Becker Films, leaving Becker to manage the group, which has production and cinema interests.

The group's arthouse distrib, Dendy Films, which handles a dozen titles annually, is flourishing after its boffo Christmas release of "Amelie."

Becker Films has released one pic since March 2001 but plans a 100-print release of Phillip Noyce's aboriginal drama "Rabbit Proof Fence" Feb 21.
