Szabo to mentor Shooting Stars

Euro thesps include 'Duke's' Russell, 'Wolf's' Renier

BERLIN -- Academy Award-winning director Istvan Szabo will mentor 17 up-and-coming young Euro thesps to be presented at this year's fifth Shooting Stars ceremony on Feb. 10.

Sponsored by the European Film Promotion org, it introduces young actors to the industry and the public through promotional events during the Berlin Film Festival and nurtures their talent by giving them the opportunity to speak with casting directors, agents and directors.

Shooting Stars of 2002 include Germany's Antonio Wannek ("Der Felsen," "Never Mind the Wall"); the U.K.'s Lucy Russell ("The Lady and the Duke"), Belgium's Jeremie Renier ("Brotherhood of the Wolf," "The Third Eye"); and Maria Wuergler Rich ("Minor Mishaps") from Denmark.

Other Shooting Stars include Ireland's Lindsey Harris ("Chaos"), France's Rachida Brakni ("Chaos"), Athena Maximou ("Edge of the Night") from Greece, Iceland's Margret Vilhjalmsdottir ("The Seagull's Laughter"), Italian Fabrizio Gifuni ("Probably Love"), Fedja van Huet from the Netherlands, Norwegian Maria Bonnevie, Luxembourg's Luc Feit, Portugal's Carla Bolito, Sweden's Tuva Novotny, Switzerland's Michael Finger, Spain's Enrique Alcides and Hungary's Marcell Miclos.
