MADRID -- The much-touted drama "Javier ya no vive solo" bowed in primetime Sunday on Tele 5 to a promising 25% ratings share, or 4.2 million viewers.
"Javier" marks the return of the biggest name in Spanish TV, Emilio Aragon, who toplined "Family Doctor."
Ratings powerhouse
"Doctor," which ran from 1995-99, broke local ratings records, averaging a 44% share and 7.6 million viewers. It became the bestselling Spanish drama outside Spain, with hit reformats broadcast in Portugal and Italy.
Dramedy "Javier" turns on a fortysomething bachelor bringing up his nieces after his brother is jailed for tax fraud.
Show's share is 4% better than the average for Tele 5 in a season when only one drama rookie, TVE-1's 1970s throwback "Cuentame," has made any ratings news in Spain.
Tele 5 is rejigging the scheduling of two Spanish holdovers, police drama "El Comisario" and the "ER"-like "Hospital Central," after both bowed new episodes to soft ratings this month.
