B.O. falls; $1 mil 'Mia'
Several shows that had nine performances during the previous week made up for the extra perf by dipping down to seven this week. This accounted for the whopping $426,847 drop at "42nd Street," for example, which nevertheless took in $806,846.
"Mamma Mia!," which raised its top ticket to $125 for its New Year's Eve performance, bucked the trend by gaining $120,198 and setting a new house record of $1,082,999 at the Winter Garden Theater.
The 17 musicals grossed $9,706,719 for 81% of the Broadway total, with attendance of 152,222 at 90.7% of capacity.
The 8 plays took in $2,270,787 for 19% of the Broadway total, with attendance of 46,313 repping 74.1% of capacity.
Average ticket prices were $63.77 for musicals, $49.03 for plays and $60.33 for all shows.
