Buyers beware

Heading the must-see list for buyers:

  • Miguel Arteta's "The Good Girl," bowing in the Premieres section, starring Jennifer Aniston and Jake Gyllenhaal, being sold by Myriad Pictures

  • "Coastlines," Victor Nunez's tale of an excon's return to his small hometown, starring Josh Brolin and Timothy Olyphant

  • Actor John Malkovich's directorial debut, "The Dancer Upstairs," a complex fable that intertwines a police investigation, a political drama and a love story, starring Javier Bardem

  • "Gerry," Gus Van Sant's partly improvised experimental film in both the Premieres and Frontier sections

  • Dramatic competition entries "Bark," Kasia Adamik's tale of a woman who abandons all human forms of communication, starring Lisa Kudrow, Hank Azaria and Vincent D'Onofrio

  • "Cherish," director Finn Taylor ("Dream With the Fishes") returns to the fest with a subversive romantic comedy

  • "Secretary," from director Steven Shainberg, a humorous look at the darker side of love

  • "The Slaughter Rule," the debut feature from twin filmmakers Alex and Andrew Smith, set in the world of six-men football

  • Justin Lin's high school fable "Better Luck Tomorrow"

  • "Tadpole," Gary Winick's sharp-witted story of first love and the innocence of youth, starring Sigourney Weaver
