Donald W. Johnston, Broadway composer, orchestrator and arranger, died Monday at Overlook Hospital in Summit, N.J., from cancer. He was 57.
Johnston's most recent credit was musical adaptation, arrangement and additional orchestration for the current Broadway production of "42nd Street." He also arranged dance music for the original Broadway production of that show and conducted its last two years on Broadway.
Other Broadway credits include arrangements and musical orchestrations for "Oh, Kay!" and conductor and musical director of "The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby" and "All's Well That Ends Well."
Johnston is survived by wife Diane, two sons, his father and a sister.
Funeral services will be held at Marble Collegiate Church, 1 West 29 St, New York City on Thursday at 11 am.
