'Pinocchio' crew mourn designer

World Brief

Helmer-thesp Roberto Benigni led the cast and crew of "Pinocchio" in a minute's silence Monday in memory of the $40 million pic's Oscar-winning set designer Danilo Donati, who died Sunday in Rome of heart failure.

"He was an extraordinary, amazing man, and I loved him very much," Benigni said. "He dedicated his life to the service of beauty."

Principal photography is due to wrap this month on "Pinocchio," which Miramax picked up in Cannes for all territories excluding Italy.
