Murdoch a father for fifth time

Daughter born in New York

LONDON -- Rupert Murdoch's wife Wendi Deng has given birth to a daughter, Grace.

The baby, which was born in New York Monday night and weighed 9 pounds, is the 70 year-old News Corp mogul's fifth child and third daughter.

Deng is Murdoch's third wife. His other children are Prudence, 38, Elisabeth, 33, Lachlan, 30, and James, 28.

Lachlan and James are generally considered the only serious contenders to eventually take over Murdoch's empire.

Prudence, from the first marriage, does not work for News Corp, and Elisabeth left News Corp-controlled U.K. satcaster BSkyB last year to set up her own film and TV production company, Shine Entertainment.

Deng met Murdoch when she worked at Asian News Corp subsid, Star TV.
