Universal Music's Murthy promoted to PR veepee

Resnikoff assigns 'enormous job' to department head

HOLLYWOOD -- Sujata Murthy has been promoted to vice president of public relations at Universal Music Enterprises.

Murthy has been the head of the department and directing press campaigns in all media for all projects of the catalog arm of Universal Music Group, including the Motown, Mercury, Polygram, Geffen, A&M, Island, Def Jam, MCA, MCA Nashville and Mercury Nashville labels. Murthy is also responsible for UME's corporate imaging.

"This is an enormous job, and Sujata's accomplishments here have genuinely earned her this elevation to vice president status," UME president Bruce Resnikoff said.

Prior to joining UME, Murthy performed many similar duties at EMI Music Distribution and EMI-Capitol Entertainment Properties, concentrating on brand management for Frank Sinatra, the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Al Green and Dean Martin.

Murthy previously worked at Capitol Records, where she launched Capitol's first "catalog publicity" department and worked extensively on reissue campaigns for the Beatles and the Beach Boys.
