PUSAN -- Korean helmer Song Il-Gon's debut feature "Flower Island" won the New Current Section, the only competition at the 6th Pusan Intl. Film Festival, which wrapped Saturday.

The Section, which promotes young Asian cinema, comprised 11 entries from China, Korea, Japan, India, Iran, Hong Kong and Indonesia.

"Flower," a compelling tale of three women trying to heal inner pain, won the $10,000 New Current award, the $7,800 Pusan System of Broadcasting audience award and the first FRIPESCI award.

Special Mention went to Jeong Jae-Eun's "Take Care of My Cat," a very different portrayal of three young Korean women grappling with the clash between their dreams and reality. This film also secured the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema award.

The second FRIPESCI award went to Hur Jin-Ho's "One Fine Spring Day"; the SONJE fund award for short films went to Kim Jeong-Gu's "Siam -- Hard Romance"; and the WOONPA award for documentary films went to Hwang Yu's "Farewell."
