Leder, Peckham eye Fox CDC project

Ensemble drama focuses on federal agency

Practically ripped from today's headlines, Fox is developing a one-hour project about the Centers for Disease Control from helmer Mimi Leder and "Don't Say a Word" scribe Anthony Peckham.

Leder is close to signing on as an executive producer and director on the project; Peckham would serve as exec producer and writer. The project comes from Regency Television.

Ensemble drama focuses on the lives of people inside and outside the CDC, the nation's lead federal agency for protecting the health and safety of people at home and abroad.

The CDC has dominated headlines in recent weeks as it responds to anthrax attacks and prepares for other potential bioterrorist activity.

Project comes as Leder inked a one-year development deal with Fox Broadcasting last month (Daily Variety, Oct. 11). The "Deep Impact" helmer's credits include an Emmy for directing an "ER" episode. She most recently exec produced the ABC drama "The Beast."

Peckham has seen his fortunes rise since co-writing "Don't Say a Word" with Patrick Smith Kelly. (The New Regency feature was based on the novel by Andrew Klavan.) "Word" has grossed more than $52 million at the box office.

Peckham is repped by Paradigm, while Leder is represented by CAA.
