Juarez tops Admira unit

Operation to be similar to Canal Plus in France

MADRID -- Ele Juarez, managing director of Admira (formerly Telefonica Media), will head the conglom's new centralized acquisition service for all its media assets.

Juarez, the Spanish TV exec with the most knowledge of the international market, takes the reins of a powerful operation that will be similar to Canal Plus Intl. Acquisitions in France.

Admira, the giant film and TV subsid of Spanish telco Telefonica, encompasses Spanish broadcaster Antena 3, satcaster Via Digital, production company Lolafilms, Endemol and two Argentine free broadcasters, Telefe and Azul TV.

In his three years as Sogecable managing director, Juarez negotiated heavyweight product deals with six U.S. studios for pay TV interests.

The as-yet-unnamed buying entity aims to harness the muscle of Admira's free and pay TV assets in Spain and Argentina to leverage multiple-rights and multiple-territory deals along the lines of the agreement inked last month with Warner Bros. Intl. TV.

This saw Admira license non-exclusive pay-per-view rights and exclusive free library titles for Spain and first-run free rights for Argentina.

With Admira coordinating acquisitions, the rights-brokering company aims to further larger strategic alliances with major suppliers.
