Stuart H. Fox

Emmy-winning sound recordist Stuart H. Fox died Nov. 8 of cancer in Los Angeles. He was 60.

Son of Philip Fox, a regional film distributor for Columbia Pictures, he grew up in Cincinnati, where he attended college. He then served in the Army as a clarinetist and manager of the Army band in Fairbanks. After attending USC's film school, he became a freelance sound recordist for features and TV. For 30 years, he owned Stu Fox Services, recording all sorts of tracks, from awards shows to the O.J. Simpson trials. He won an Emmy in 1984 for his work on the television series "Real People."

An instructor at the film school of the Arts Center College of Design in Pasadena, Fox wrote the 1976 tome "Jewish Films in the United States: A Comprehensive Survey and Descriptive Filmography." He was also a member of IAFSE Local 695 and the Cinema Audio Society.

Fox is survived by his wife, Anne.
