Gene Wooten

Gene Wooten, Dobro player who backed Patty Loveless, the Osborne Brothers, Wilma Lee Cooper and other country stars, died Wednesday Nov. 7 in Nashville of lung cancer. He was 49.

Wooten, a native of Franklinton, N.C., moved to Nashville in 1977. He played on this year's "Mountain Soul" album by Loveless and was voted best Dobro player three times by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass in America. A Dobro is a type of acoustic steel guitar.
