Regency to spin kids yarn 'Braque'
Bobker to produce Landon adaptation of Mahy book
Daniel Bobker will produce the project from a screenplay by Christopher Landon, repped by Paradigm, who also wrote "Blood and Chocolate," which Bobker is producing for MGM. Bobker is also producing "The Brothers Grimm" at MGM.
Carmody Braque is the name of a Willy Wonka-esque toy store proprietor. Mahy's novel portrays a town that falls under Braque's spell, and it's about the heroic adventures of two children who cross paths with him.
Regency exec Jason Weiss brought the project into the shingle and will oversee it with production prexy Sanford Panitch. Regency's Bill Winer negotiated the deal.
Mahy, who lives in the U.K., is known for such books as "The Haunting" and "The Memory," which, along with "The Changeover," won England's Carnegie Medal, the nation's top children's fiction prize.
