Auds get a second look at 'Rouge'

Fox to re-release pic on Nov. 21 in four cities

Fox has announced plans to re-release "Moulin Rouge" on Nov. 21 in special engagements in Gotham, Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco.

Pic's theatrical re-release comes at a time when studios are ramping up campaigns for the awards season and will not affect its home-vid release on Dec. 18.

"The film's success has transcended box-office numbers," said Fox's domestic distribution prexy Bruce Snyder. "People seem to still be clamoring for it in ways that none of us at Fox could have predicted."

The post-modern musical, which stars Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman, bowed last May and has grossed $56.7 million domestically. "Rouge" has also performed solidly overseas, earning $64.7 million while enjoying No. 1 openings in France and the U.K.

"Moulin Rouge" recently garnered several honors from the Hollywood Film Festival including picture and actor and actress awards for McGregor and Kidman.
