Music sales to go online

Cyberbiz Brief

Leapfrogging some of the biggest label-backed services, retailer Best Buy has begun offering music for digital download on its Web site, using technology from RioPort. Initially, the site will offer music from EMI, Bertelsmann and AOL Time Warner labels (through RioPort licenses), with prices ranging from 99¢ to $1.99 for singles and $9.99 to $15.99 for album-length downloads. Best Buy expects to add music from more labels and fine-tune pricing based on customer response.
