John Cameron Mitchell ("Hedwig and the Angry Inch") and Henry Bean ("The Believer") shared the IFP's Open Palm award for first-time feature filmmakers Monday night at the 11th annual Gotham Awards. The tie was a first for the awards, which were presented at Pier 60 on the Chelsea Piers.

The Open Palm was the only competitive prize not announced in advanced. Other winners included Robert De Niro (lifetime achievement), Uma Thurman (actor), Edet Belzberg (documentary achievement), Yolonda Ross (breakthrough actor) and the late Bill Nisselson (independent vision). Andy Dick hosted the ceremony, which was chaired by Tribeca Films founder and co-partner Jane Rosenthal.
