Valenti meets with Mexican President Fox

U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Jeffrey Davidow and the MPA's senior vice president of Latin American operations, Steve Solot, also attended the meeting, as did Sari Bermudez, prexy of Mexico's National Culture Council.
Earlier this year, local film and recording industry reps voiced concerns over a slowdown in antipiracy raids and arrests under the new administration of Fox, who took office in December.
During the Friday meeting, Macedo proposed several initiatives, including a mechanism for coordination between his office and affected industries to ensure that all claims will be thoroughly investigated. Both sides agreed to meet frequently to discuss methods of improving enforcement of existing intellectual property laws.
In addition to antipiracy talks, Mexican officials requested advice and technical expertise on developing a new film rating and classification system. Valenti offered the MPA's cooperation.
On Wednesday, the Mexico-U.S. Bilateral Film Industry Committee met in Mexico City to discuss an MPA project to screen Mexican films on university campuses to promote awareness of local cinema.
The MPA also supports efforts to organize one or more markets for Mexican films within the U.S. to increase distribution of productions north of the border.
