Ellender to head Fremantle distrib

Exec to oversee U.K. and U.S. sales

LONDON -- David Ellender has been appointed managing director of Fremantle Intl. Distribution, formerly Pearson TV Intl.

Ellender was previously European managing director for Universal Studios TV Distribution. He will report to Catherine Mackay, CEO of FremantleMedia Enterprises.

Based in London, he will oversee the U.K. and the U.S. sales team.

He has been charged with identifying new areas of growth for the company, and in particular with leading its expansion into non-English language programming, co-production and new genres.

Ellender was president of Polygram TV Intl. when it was taken over by Universal. Before that he worked for Virgin Vision and British Satellite Broadcasting.

"David has held a number of senior positions for leading media companies and has excellent managerial skills and a strong strategic vision," Mackay commented. "David's ability to think out of the box and manage in a complex world will be vital to growing FID's business for the next few years."
