Ecosse picks up Faulks' novel for 'Gray' team
Producer Douglas Rae said he hopes to reunite as many of the "Charlotte Gray" team as possible on the new project, including director Gillian Armstrong.
The screenplay is being written by Kevin Hood, who penned the BBC series "In the Land of Plenty."
"Charlotte Gray," a WWII romantic drama starring Cate Blanchett, is already attracting strong Oscar buzz after Warner moved its U.S. release date forward to December to qualify for the Academy Awards.
Pic was co-produced by FilmFour and Warner, with Universal picking up most foreign rights.
"On Green Dolphin Street" is set against the backdrop of the presidential race between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon, and centers on an affair between a British diplomat's wife and a Washington reporter.
Ecosse, which first came to notice as the producer of "Mrs. Brown," is also developing "Bonnie Prince Charlie," a big-budget historical epic about the Scottish rebellion in the 18th century. Ronan Bennett ("Lucky Break") has just delivered his screenplay.
Jeremy Brock, who wrote "Charlotte Gray" and "Mrs. Brown," is writing an original script titled "Faith," a tale of star-crossed lovers during the English Civil War in the 17th century.
Also for Ecosse, Judi Dench is attached to star in "Helen's Boy," a romantic comedy being written by Michael Chaplin about a New York magazine editor who starts an affair with a younger man in order to save her marriage.
"Our aim is to make big international films, using Working Title as our model," Rae said.
