"I am thrilled to work with this dynamic and seasoned team, and delighted to find two of them in our own back yard," said Captor, who prior to taking the fest's helm in January was an Emmy-nominated TV producer and director, and one of five people who started Turner Networks.
Previous gigs
Spence joins the San Francisco fest from the Seattle Intl. Film Festival, where he was associate director for eight years. During his past season, he programmed Terry Zwigoff's "Ghost World" and Tim Blake Nelson's "O."
Blackaby was formerly program director for the San Francisco Asian American Film Festival, co-director of programming for the Hamptons Intl. Film Festival and senior program consultant for the Washington, D.C., Intl. Film Festival. She began her fest career as founding director of the Philadelphia Festival of World Cinema.
Garcia, an Asian film specialist, began his career as director of the Hong Kong Intl. Film Festival. He recently curated a program of Filipino films for the Far East Film Festival in Udine, Italy.
Headed into its 45th year, the San Francisco Intl. Film Festival showcases nearly 200 features, docs and shots.
