ITV Digital criticized

World Brief

U.K. advertising buyer Zenith Media has called for the closure of ITV Digital, the terrestrial pay TV platform co-owned by ITV companies Carlton Communications and Granada Media.

In its quarterly report, Zenith, a major buyer of ITV airtime, said it was "fantasy" to think the platform could break even by 2004. Zenith also argued that supporting the venture was detrimental to ITV's core business.

ITV Digital has roughly 1.2 million subscribers, satcaster BSkyB more than 5.5 million.
