Clear Channel exec Donahue exits
Sr. VP's 'vision' differs from co., Howe to replace ankling exec
Donahoe, who was based in San Diego, had recently been tapped to head Clear Channel's West Coast region, which includes California and Hawaii. Move was part of a new plan that divided the company's 1,200 radio properties into eight geographical fiefdoms in an effort to boost flagging advertising sales.
"While I am fully supportive of the new geographic regional alignment, my vision of how to carry this out differs from Clear Channel's," Donahoe said.
Pioneer Howe
Replacing the outgoing Donahoe will be Don Howe, who helped build the company's Denver radio cluster, pioneering the company's "hub and spoke" structure through which programming and administration from a large market is shared with nearby smaller stations.
CCR's restructuring plan, announced last month, included the appointment of eight regional senior VPs. Three were newly promoted to their posts, while five more -- including Donahoe -- already held a senior VP title in the old structure.
